The heart has it’s own wiring system with a natural pacemaker which sits in the top right chamber of the heart -the Right Atrium, it’s in the top left of the video as you’re looking at it. This controls how fast or slow the heart beats depending on how you are feeling or what you are doing. The electricity initially spreads to the two top chambers of the heart causing them to contract & pump blood to the lower chambers (Ventricles). The electrical activity spreads to the lower portion of the heart via a relay station called the AV node. The signals are transmitted through special condition tissue to the larger ventricles
Palpitations are essentially an awareness of one’s heartbeat. It doesn’t necessarily mean
there is an abnormality or a problem. A person can be more aware of their heartbeat if
stressed or anxious. Similarly, stress, anxiety or pain can result in a rapid heartbeat.
